February ‘22 Daily Painting Challenge
In February 2022, I completed a painting a day. In those 28 days, I’ve allowed myself to explore. I didn’t stick to one specific theme, medium or style. I gave myself the freedom to paint whatever I felt like painting each day without giving in to “rules” or external pressure. I found this experience to be very liberating! I discovered myself even more as an artist throughout the process.
Most of my paintings were available in the form of a giveaway (draw) or as an art exchange with other artist friends who were also participating in this daily painting challenge. I tried to post my paintings daily on social media, however I found this to be challenging.
It was a lot of work to both paint and post daily. There is a lot of preparation work involved behind posting my paintings on social media, this is something that the viewers don’t really see. I try to occasionally share some “behind the scenes” activity that shows all the work that goes with the entire process, such as setting up a photoshoot to photograph the paintings or scanning them to make them into a digital format. Once that part is done, the photos require editing and the text accompanying the post needs to be thought out. In my case, I was also doing some giveaways which required additional posts and coordination. Don’t get me wrong, I loved doing this and enjoyed it, but it was a little too much to handle on a daily basis on top of my regular day job. After about a week in, I made the decision to be kind on myself and started posting in batches every few days instead of daily.
One of the best outcomes of this challenge was the opportunity it gave me to build friendships within the art the community. It was nice to be able to exchange thoughts, ideas and share small wins and struggles during this challenge with fellow artists. I very much enjoyed seeing my friends grow and find their own voices as artists, so much beauty was created in the month of February! I’m truly surrounded by a group of beautiful and talented humans. I’m so thankful for the support I received from my amazing art community.
This was the longest daily painting challenge I’ve ever completed. Painting daily really helped me improve and refine my skills in such a short time.
These 28 days have given me the motivation to continue exploring, it has given me new ideas and a great amount of inspiration. I ended this challenge with a clear outlook that I’m on the right path!
Below, you will find photo collages of all 29 paintings completed in the 28 days (I made two paintings on day 15, I was extra motivated that day lol). The order in which the paintings are organized don’t always reflect the order in which I painted them; I couldn’t make them all fit in the collage in the proper order.
The paintings were made using watercolour, gouache or acrylic. Some were made using palettes knife and no brushes.
If you are interested, I also created a Reel of the entire collection on Instagram. Here’s the link: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CavEaniJE1C/?utm_medium=copy_link
