My honest journey…

I had a bad moment last weekend. I spent an entire day painting with watercolour and wasn’t happy with my results.  I was very discouraged.

After giving it some thought, I came to the realization that I had put way too much pressure on myself. It had been a while since I had painted with watercolour and I had gotten use to gouache and simply forgot that watercolour has a mind of its own.  I had to refocus my mindset. I need to just let it flow and let my creativity follow it!

I had to remind myself why I paint, why I started painting in the first place. I paint for “me”, I paint because I enjoy it, it brings me inner peace and healing. It is my therapy after a long day or week at work. It is my calm! It is also a way to express myself and share my healing journey, to bring happiness and serenity to others.

When I share my paintings, I’m sharing my journey, my emotions and values. I know that my paintings won’t connect with everyone, but if I can transmit any of the positiveness I get in the process of painting to just one person or if I can help you heal through beauty, it is worth it!

If my true honest art resonates with you, I’m grateful.

My negative state on Sunday was going against all of my core values for painting in the first place. I realize that negative thoughts are part of any healing process. However, I choose to focus on positive energies and transmit those soothing values through my art.

To bring back balance and a healthy mindset to my art practice, I’ve decided to paint loosely with watercolour everyday for one week without worrying about the finished product. To help remove the pressure, I will be painting in my sketchbook.

To hold myself accountable to this mindset commitment and show that beauty can come out of just letting go, I will share my paintings with you in my Instagram stories at the end of each day.

I’m especially thankful to an artist friend of mine for helping me out of my rut by asking me these two simple questions “why was I making it (the paintings) and what does it mean?”

This Orchid is today’s loose painting. Pink Orchids are often associated with love, beauty, thoughtfulness and mature charm, they convey the sentiment of good health.
